Paul Hayes
HITTING COACH
Paul Hayes served as HCCSA's Director of Coaching from 2007-2010, a previous Board President, and as a coach on various teams from 2007-present. This is also Coach Hayes' ninth season as Head Coach of the Schreiner University Men's Soccer team.
Hayes and success go hand-in-hand. He earned ASC Coach of the Year in both 2006 and 2005. In those two years, Schreiner played some of the best defense in school history, setting many individual and team records along the way. The 2006 team set the school record for conference wins with a 12-5 record. The Mountaineers earned the opportunity to host the ASC Championships in Kerrville - a first for any SU team since joining the ASC.
Hayes has been associated with the game of soccer throughout his life. As a youth, Hayes played club soccer for the Dallas Hornets and high school soccer for the Pine Tree Pirates in Longview, TX. After high school, he played one year at Tyler (TX) Junior College where he earned NSCAA All-American honors.
In 1998, Hayes became the head coach for the Cookeville High School boy’s soccer team in Tennessee. During his three seasons at the helm, Hayes took former district bottom-dweller CHS to back-to-back district titles along with an appearance in the state semifinals. During that period, Hayes' teams posted a 53-15-3 overall record. In 2002, he served for one season as a volunteer assistant for the Tennessee Tech women's soccer team.
In August of 2003, Paul was named the head coach for the Schreiner University men’s soccer program. Much like at Cookeville, Hayes was charged with the task of taking a non-contender to new heights. In his first season as head coach, Hayes guided the team to a tie for third place in the ASC West Division and narrowly missed a post-season tournament berth. His 2004 Mountaineers improved to an 8-5 record in the ASC and earned the school’s first ASC Tournament bid. In 2005, the Mountaineers took another step up and finished with an overall record of 10-7-2 and 8-4-1 in ASC play - and earned its second straight bid to the ASC Tournament. SU earned its first ASC Tournament win in school history.
Hayes holds a USSF "A" coaching license and a NSCAA GK II diploma. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Tennessee Tech University.
Paul lives in Kerrville with his wife, Lea, and their children, Kaylee, Kamryn, and Mason.
